Holistic Journey - You and Yours

Reflexology for Pregnancy

More and more women are turning to natural therapies to help ease them through pregnancy and childbirth. Today, reflexology is being embraced as a valuable part of ante-natal and post-natal care.

Reflexology views the feet (& hands) as a miniature mirror of the whole person. Thousands of nerve endings and the energy zones in the feet (& hands) are worked on to help release blockages and stimulate the body's own healing mechanisms.

Reflexology for pregnancy
Many women enjoy a positive experience of pregnancy but it can also bring with it an array of discomforts. Indigestion, sore breasts, cramps, fluid retention, nausea, constipation, mood swings, hypertension, haemorrhoids to name a few! Reflexology can help ease and alleviate such discomforts as well as helping you to relax and cope more efficiently with everyday stress. Reflexology can also offer you a time to 'just be' with your baby, helping to strengthen the bond between you.

Reflexology and childbirth
Women who choose to have reflexology treatments throughout pregnancy tend to have shorter more efficient births with less intervention and less need for pain relief. Some women opt for reflexology during labour either by a qualified reflexologist, a midwife with reflexology training or by their partner (simple massage techniques of the hands & feet can be taught to fathers to be).

Post-natal reflexology
Reflexology can help a new mum recover from the birth, helping to tone pelvic muscles and ligaments, and facilitate recovery of the uterus. Reflexology can also help hormones to stabilise preventing mood swings, overeating and energy loss. A treatment can also offer a new mum valuable 'time out' helping her to feel relaxed and revitalised.

To find a qualified reflexologist in your area contact The Association of Reflexologists or ask your midwife if they can recommend a practitioner
