Holistic Journey - Therapies

Questions a therapist may need to ask you.

1. Are you on medication?

2. Have you recently had an operation?

3. Are you pregnant, or trying to conceive?

4. Do you have diabetes?

5. Do you have a heart condition?

6. Do you suffer from epilepsy?

7. Do you have any back problems?

8. Do you have any allergies?

9. Have you ever had a thrombosis?

10. Have you been diagnosed with cancer?

11. Have you ever suffered from depression?

12. Are you having any other complementary therapy?

13. Have you ever had this type of therapy before?

14. Is your G.P. aware that you are having this treatment?

A therapist may also ask you about your diet, exercise, fluid intake and general lifestyle.

Your consultation with a therapist should be confidential. Remember if you do not feel totally comfortable with a therapist then find someone new.

Do discuss any reservations you have about the treatment. Some treatments need a few sessions to have an effect, talk to your therapist about how many sessions you will need, and how often. Do not feel obliged to continue if you feel you haven’t improved after a certain amount of time.

You could discuss with your therapist whether a different type of therapy would be more appropriate and they may be able to refer you to another practitioner. It may be advisable to speak to your G.P. before embarking on some treatment programmes.
