Holistic Journey - You and Yours

If you want to change your life fast, you need to slow down!

Change Your Life

Most of us seem to rush around with time galloping fast on our heels. There may be those few quiet moments when we allow ourselves to acknowledge that this is not what we really want but that can often be too painful to face. So we busy ourselves again and ignore that cry from within.

So why is slowing down so important? Well, from a physiological point of view our bodies need time to rest so that healing and repair of vital tissues can take place. If we are stressed, (and a body that doesn’t get enough rest is a stressed body) every single cell in our body is stressed. It may show up in stiff shoulders, headaches, stomach problems, skin rashes and other warning signs but we must also remember that we are made up of millions of tiny cells. Our cells ‘talk’ to each other, passing on crucial messages about how we are feeling. A stressed cell can find it difficult to send & receive vital messages to and from other cells in the body so ……………..Our bodies are built to survive, and physiologically they have all sorts of coping mechanisms that can be used but if stress levels are constant with no chance of re-balance then your body will have to start making serious compromises. You may begin to feel tired & run down. You are more susceptible to illness as your immune system becomes strained and eventually chronic conditions can take hold.

When we slow down we give ourselves the chance to heal; physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Many people find that as soon as they take time off work they get ill. That’s your body’s way of saying ‘Thank goodness for that!’ And allowing your body that time to repair and recuperate is probably what’s saving you from developing a major chronic illness.

Ignore your body’s warning signs and you may be setting yourself up for something a lot worse in the future. Better still, don’t let it get to the ‘warning’ stage. Be kind to your body and slow down.
